Earlier in the summer, I woke up with glee because I thought I had moved on from my previous relationship. It was my first time waking up and going to bed without thinking about my ex. I was focused on my books, my plans for my blogs, and my dreams of future goals. It was an exhilarating moment. What I didn’t know is that there are levels to moving on: First, there’s the stage that I was excited to be in earlier this summer. We can call that the beginning to move on. You’re feeling good, thinking about other things, entertaining the idea of casual dating. Then there’s the “Hm, maybe we can ...

Grow Where You Are Planted
It’s hard to describe the pain of a broken engagement. It’s harder than losing a boyfriend or girlfriend. When you get engaged to someone, you have thought critically and at length about sharing your life with another person. You become less worried about the future because you understand that your partner will be there. Questions about life start having answers. You understand that your relationship will not always be roses, but your partner is worth the thorns. Anxieties quiet, and fears dissipate. Everything about life does not make sense still, but your partner gives you clarity. I was ...
Rice Water
I noticed Rice Water challenges on YouTube and Pinterest. Supposedly, naturals were growing up to an inch of hair in a week because of this miraculous concoction. An inch in a week? Heck yeah I wanted to try it! So I did use it on and off all summer. I used brown rice, because I figured it’s packed in the good nutrients that white rice does not have. It’s a whole grain, so in my logic, it would do a whole lot for my hair. It’s basically an at home protein treatment. I think that it’s doing wonders for my hair. My Recipe: I added a cup of brown rice to two and a half cups of water. First ...
Navigating Friendship with Women
Every now and then a girl comes along as says the dreaded phrase: “I don’t hang out with girls, they’re too much drama.” People scream bloody murder. The streets run red with blood. Baby angels cry. The reactions to such a simple sentence is never small. Some girls nod emphatically. Others smile politely but make a mental note to never hang out again. Like any other millennial, I consulted Google about it. The results were not good for “girls without girl friends”. A vast majority of them said to steer clear of those girls because they are the drama. There’s a reason no one is friends with ...
Big Chop
Last May, I had to cut off all of my hair. I had heat damage. The entire front of my head was frazzled, seared, fried... whatever you want to call it. It was bad. I had gotten a sew-in in Florida before moving to Guam. I argued with the hairstylist for a while, because I didn't want leave out. I told her Guam was way more humid than Florida and I didn't want to flat iron my hair every day. My hair shrinks up if there's a whisper of water 200 miles away. The stylist talked me out of what I already knew, and did the leave out. Fast forward to removing the weave a month or so later... you ...
Challenge 4
New week, new challenge! My fiancé is off-island so I have all these little projects and challenges to keep busy. So far, so good! I do miss my goofball, though. What's on the table for this week? A Color Run on the Naval Base for Guam's 75th Liberation Day anniversary this weekend! Here's what I know: It's a 5K and the first 400 finishers get a t-shirt. The showtime is 6 a.m. I'm going to have fun! I haven't done a 5K since last September, so it'll be interesting. I am not a distance runner. I prefer the exact opposite. When I was a kiddo, I loved to sprint. Feeling the air rushing by ...
